Profile

English Heritage

English Heritage is the Government's statutory adviser on the historic environment. Officially known as the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England, we are an executive Non-Departmental Public Body sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. Our principal powers and responsibilities are set out in the National Heritage Act (1983).

The London Local Office is a multi-disciplinary team covering all 33 local authority areas within Greater London. Our role includes:

- providing statutory and other advice on the management of the historic environment
- working with other organisations at strategic and local level to secure benefits for the historic environment
- offering grants for secular buildings, places of worship, ancient monuments and help for tackling heritage at risk
